And here is the finished system with fish: My water change reservoir is hard plumbed with a submersible pump and titanium heaters controlled by an industrial type temperature controller: My German strains are in the finished area of my basement in a more formal setup, housed in several large tanks (240-265 gallons each), all of which have automated water changing systems of my own design servicing them. I will post pictures in a while. All my tanks receive approximately 150-200% water changes each week. Sometimes more, sometimes less, depending on how heavily I feed. My water is ideal for discus right out of the tap. Less than one degree GH and KH from the faucet. The only type chemical additions I do besides de-chlorinating the water, is I sometimes have to buffer (build KH) the water up as the pH of the tanks can drop since there is very little buffering capacity to start with. But regular water changes take care of that for the most part. The smaller Discus I have for sale (2.5-3 inches) are fed four times daily, a combination of dry food (Tetra Bits or flake), frozen bloodworms, and my own beefheart mix, which I make in multi-pound lots. The 3-4 inch Discus are fed three times a day. My larger Discus (5 plus inches) are fed two times a day. |
